| Profile | Mohd Kamaruddin, 32, is a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering since July 2004 and a research member of Process Control and Safety Group (PCS) since 2001. He is a registered Graduate Engineer of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) since 2001, Graduate Member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), since 2006, Associate Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and Member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) since 2007. Born in Membakut, Sabah, Malaysia, and educated in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), started his academic career in UTM since 2003. He is noted as an innovative, energetic, versatile lecturer, and was appointed as a member of UTM Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Cooperative Learning Task Force and committee member of Malaysian Journal of Engineering Education.
He is now a Ph.D. student at the Computer Aided Process-Product Engineering Center (CAPEC), Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU) under supervison of Professor Rafiqul Gani. His research title is "Integration of Modelling, Design and Control for Efficient Operation of Chemical Processes".
He was a Webmaster, Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering (FKKKSA) UTM since August 2006. He was a Marketing Manager of the Department of Chemical Engineering External Relations Task Force (April 2005-April 2006). Mohd. Kamaruddin was also Secretariat of the Department of Chemical Engineering Quality Assurance (QA) Task Force since April 2006 and Head of Publicity Section of Jawatankuasa Kebajikan dan Rekreasi Staf (JAKRIS) of FKKKSA since August 2005. He was also Editor of Buletin FKKKSA since Sept 2005 and Advisor of Perwakilan Mahasiswa Sabah (PERMAS) UTM since Sept 2004.
He has published 23 technical papers especially in Process Integration (Process Design and Control) for Chemical Procesess, and Problem-Based Learning in Chemical Engineering Education. He was a Committee Member of the 1st International Conference on Natural Resources Engineering and Technology INRET 2006 (July 2006) and Regional Conference on Engineering Education RCEE 2005 (Dec 2005). He was also appointed as a Paper/Abstract Reviewer for the ASEE/IEEE Frontiers in Education Conference 2006-2008.
His main research interest are in Integration of Process Design and Control, Process Modeling and Simulation using Aspen HYSYS and MATLAB/Simulink, Application of Neural Networks in Chemical Process Control and Process Fault Detection, and Problem-Based Learning in Chemical Engineering Education. He has been conducted several professional short courses on process modelling using Aspen HYSYS.
